Early-Mid 20th Century Chinese Hangzhou Silk Embroidery of West Lake, A finely worked monochrome silk embroidery depicting the famed West Lake (X?hu), Hangzhou, rendered in subtle shades of black, grey, and ivory. The serene scene shows a lone fisherman on a small boat with pavilions, trees, and distant mountains reflected across still waters. The embroidery exhibits the characteristic Hangzhou "Su-style" (Su Xiu) needlework, known for its extremely fine, photo-realistic stitching. The upper inscription reads: "??????", referring to a poetic description of West Lake and its serene moonlit reflections. The side inscription identifies the maker as the Hangzhou Municipal Silk Weaving Factory (?????????), one of the best-known state-run textile workshops active from the early 1900s through the mid-20th century. FRAME MEASURES APPROX. 23 1/2" WIDE X 18" HIGH, Condition as seen in photos provided.
